The Myth of Silliness

Detail

This was painted this winter in my studio class at NSCAD. It took quite a bit of time to finish - I spent almost a month just building the still life set up. The figures were assembled from various objects I collected from flea markets, dollar stores, ect. Then the painting itself took about another two months.

I think the hyper realism of the painting contrasts nicely with the whimsical and ridiculous nature of the objects. I also think there's something going on in this painting with ideas of the natural and the artificial.

Alex Livingston was my studio advisor for this last semester and he gave me some great advise and encouragement - he also took these photos posted above. Thanks Alex!
